Canoeing in Nuorgam – Calm Waters and Scenic Rivers

From the Holiday Village shoreline, you can launch directly into Nuorgam’s calm waters, where the river flows gently downstream. You can paddle all the way to the first Norwegian village, Polmak, or continue further toward the stunning Teno Fjord. Our top recommendation is the Lower Pulmanki River, a beautiful and relaxing canoe route.

We use high-quality Finnish Anar canoes, perfect for two paddlers.

For your canoe trip, you will need weather-appropriate clothing, suitable footwear, and snacks depending on the length of your trip.

Fishing In The Arctic Ocean

Sea Fishing Adventures in Arctic Ocean

For those seeking bigger waters, a short drive takes you to the shores of the Arctic Ocean in Norway. The nearest fishing spot, Mortensnes, is just over half an hour from Nuorgam. While Norway is often considered an expensive country, it is very welcoming for anglers: no special permits are required for sea fishing, and self-guided fishing in the Arctic Ocean is free of charge.

In addition to independent fishing, guided trips are available year-round, offering expert support and local knowledge. Depending on the season, your catch could include king crab, herring, cod, or large-mouth catfish.

Please note, that current regulations limit the amount of sea fish that can be taken out of Norway. You may bring a maximum of 18 kilograms of personally caught sea fish, and you must have a receipt from the fishing service to export it. These restrictions do not apply to freshwater fish or fish purchased from a licensed vendor.

Riverboat Trip On The Tenojoki River

You will get to admire spectacular landscapes basking in the Midnight Sun while sailing the salmon river. Tenojoki is the longest and most important salmon river in Europe and marks the border between Finland and Norway. The trip is done aboard a traditional riverboat to Alaköngäs during the Midnight Sun or in the daytime later in the autumn. When you return to the Holiday Village, you can warm yourself by the fire while savouring hot drinks and snacks.

Photography in the North

The Nuorgam region is unique in Finland in terms of landscapes, natural light and atmosphere. There is no other treeless fell highland village that is this accessible. What’s more, Norway and the Arctic Ocean are nearby, providing many photography spots. There is plenty to photograph and film throughout the year, and photographers get to experience and film the strong sense of eight seasons in Nuorgam.
